We are always ready!

What would you do if you were ever in an emergency? Step 1 would be to call SERVPRO of Barrie to help right away with your restoration needs. However, there are certain, and very important dos and don’ts in case of a water or fire emergency that you should or shouldn’t do until we arrive. Let us help you out by listing these dos and don’ts in case you ever are in these situations.

In case of an emergency water damage, pay attention to the following tips:

Do’s

- shut off the water source if possible or contact a qualified party to stop the water source

- turn off circuit breakers for wet areas of the building when access to the power distribution panel is safe from electrical shock

- remove as much excess water as possible by mopping and blotting

- place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpeting

- move any paintings, art objects, computers, documents, and other sensitive valuables to a dry place

Don’ts

-don’t enter affected areas if electrical outlets, switches, circuit breakers, or electrical equipment are exposed to water. Always avoid electrical shock hazards

- don’t use your household vacuum cleaner to remove water; this could cause electrical shock or damage to the vacuum cleaner

- don’t turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet or enter rooms where ceilings are sagging from retained water

In case of an emergency fire damage, pay attention to the following tips:

Do’s

-limit movement in the home to prevent soot particles from being embedded into carpet and avoid tracking

- keep hands clean. Soot on hands can further soil upholstery, walls, and woodwork

- if electricity is off, empty freezer and refrigerator completely and prop doors open to help prevent odor

- wipe soot from metal kitchen and bathroom faucets, trim and appliances

Don’ts

-don’t attempt to wash any walls or painted surfaces without first contacting SERVPRO of Barrie Professionals

- don’t attempt to shampoo carpet, rugs, or upholstered furniture without first consulting SERVPRO of Barrie

- don’t attempt to clean any electrical appliances (TV sets, radios, etc.) that may have been close to fire, heat, or water without first consulting an authorized repair service
